🐾 Wild Animals Guide
Wild animals in Heartopia are not pets. They live in fixed regions, show up at feeding troughs, and you build friendship (bond) by feeding them consistently.
Each animal family has one trough. Feed favorite foods for faster bond and better gift drops. Some animals also have a favorite weather (Sunny/Wet) that can boost bonding.
📋 Quick overview
- Fixed location: each animal family has one trough in one region. MAP
- Favorites: feeding favorites gives faster bond than random food.
- Weather bonus: some animals appear or bond better only in their preferred weather (Sunny/Wet). Plan your route by the day's weather when you can.
- Rewards: higher bond improves interactions, gift drops, and can unlock animal-themed furniture.
🔓 How to unlock Animal Care
You won't start feeding wildlife immediately. The typical flow is:
- Progress the main story and raise your D.G. Membership / Developer Guild level.
- Animal Care appears in your Town Guide.
- The tutorial usually points you to the Sika Deer trough first (often via ANNIE).
Exact unlock steps can vary by quest order. If you already see troughs but can't interact, keep pushing main story + Town Guide tasks.
🗺️ Trough locations
Use the table as "go there, look for this". For exact routing, use MAP and your own pins.
| Animal family | Region | Landmark / where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Panda | Forest (Jump Puzzle) | South forest area near bamboo and the Jump Puzzle stairs. Look for a small bamboo pile beside the path. |
| Capybara | Onsen Mountain | West side of the Onsen Mountain lake / ruins area, near the upper trails. |
| Wild Bunny | Suburbs / Western Town | Near the Western Town Suburbs bus stop area, along the path between suburbs and town. |
| Fox | Flower Field | Near Meadow Lake and the base of the southern windmill hill. |
| Sea Otter | Fishing Village Harbor | Harbor area near the piers. Often easiest to spot on/near rocks close to the village waterfront. |
| Ferret | Flower Field (Rosy River ridge) | Near Rosy River and the northern windmill area; look for a small stump-style trough by the trail/benches. |
| Sika Deer | Forest Lake | Close to the Forest bus stop and lakeshore path. |
| Alpaca | Flower Field / Purple Light Beach | Near the bridge toward the lighthouse area, close to the giant yellow duck landmark in the southern fields. |
Best habit: once you find a trough, pin it. Your future self will thank you.

✅ Daily route (fast + low effort)
📈 Bond, gifts, and furniture rewards
Bond is per animal family (not per individual animal). Higher bond usually means:
- More visits at the trough
- Better interactions (petting, mini-games like hide-and-seek)
- More gift drops left near the trough
- Animal-themed furniture unlocks at milestones
If you're farming rewards, feed favorites daily and don't skip gift pickup. "Feed only" and leaving loot behind is the classic rookie mistake.
🐶 Wild animals vs pets
Wild animals cannot be adopted. Pets (cats/dogs) are a separate system unlocked later via D.G. progression and quests.
FAQ
Can I adopt wild animals as pets?
No. Wildlife is only bonded through trough feeding. Cats and dogs are a separate pet system unlocked later.
Do I need to feed every day?
Daily feeding is the fastest bond progress. Missing days won't delete progress, but it slows your rewards and milestones.
Does weather matter?
You can feed in any weather, but some animals only appear at the trough in their preferred weather (Sunny or Wet), and bonding is often faster then. Check the in-game Animals app to see which weather each animal prefers.
Where do I track animal progress?
Use the Animals app on your in-game watch (and Animal Care in Town Guide). Once you discover a trough, tracking gets easier.
What's the best early-game strategy?
Feed favorites that you can produce cheaply (crops you already grow or common fish you already catch). Build a short daily route and keep it consistent.
